Magee Looks Ahead to Round Three

Tauranga based Superbike Team M1Motorsport’s Manager Moggy admits “Saturday was a difficult day for us, nothing went our way, nothing seemed to work.”

Linden Magee Qualified 10th on the grid and finished 9th in Race One, in the second round of the New Zealand Superbike Series.

The first race of Sunday was as expected, a nail biter with all riders hungry for points, Race two saw two spectacular crashes.

With 4 laps to go, the race was then red flagged and “declared” with full points and positions held as of the current lap where the race was halted, which saw the former 2012 Australian Pro-stock champ finish in 5th position.

Linden explains “I was right there on the exhaust of the riders in front of me when they went down, so I turned right and hurtled into the grass and managed to avoid getting caught up and carried on.”

Post-race, Team Manager Moggy conveyed “We’ll take the points, it gives us a bit of breathing space.”

In the second and final race of the day, events were no less dramatic, with the riders circulating during the two lap warm-up under an ominous dark cloud and spots of rain.

This was the least of competitors worries, as a false start resulted in the race being Red flagged.

With the race restarted, a rolling start from Linden resulted in a “20 second jump start penalty” which hampered the day’s results.

“I could feel the BMW rolling, it wasn’t until the race finished that I was informed of the penalty, it was a bit disappointing and frustrating losing valuable points.”

However, the highlight of the weekend had to be noting the Valvoline sponsored BMWS1000RR securing  second fastest lap in Race 3, behind New Zealand Superbike Series leader; Dennis Charlett [Suzuki  01:03.877], with a 01:03.968.

“Every track is new to me, it’s quite an experience but my lap times indicate that I’m running with the top guys who are incredibly fast and I knew they would be, I’m looking ahead to the next round at Taupo”

“Back to reality” Linden flies out in the morning, off the plane and back to work.

With a couple of months until the next round, M1Motorsport will be looking at getting in some track time in preparation for the third round at Taupo Motorsport Park March 22nd and 23rd.
